LA Lip Enhancement on the Forefront of Lip Augmentation Science
LA Lip Enhancement was developed by Dr. Calvert to create lip augmentations by extracting the patient's own fat and skin tissues. Dr. Calvert began using patients own skin and fat tissues as part of rhinoplasty and facelift surgeries, but has since been using this method for many other procedures.
Fat injections are unpredictable and many times the procedure must be repeated. Within a year, most patients notice that fat cells have shrunk and they want to see a more dramatic effect. It is not uncommon to see patients having repeated lip injections performed. That is why Dr. Calvert created a new way of doing lip enhancement.
LA Lip Enhancement is an outpatient procedure. Local anesthesia and sedatives are used for comfort and safety purposes. A thin strip of scar tissue taken from an old scar is passed through the upper lip and sometimes the lower lip in a procedure akin to implant placement. Fat is then harvested from the body and injected into the lips.
By combining the two procedures, the best results are achieved. Soft, natural lips are the result. Often times, the procedure is combined with other cosmetic surgeries such as facelifts, rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. This procedure can also be done at the same time as a Lip Lift, Chemical Peel or laser resurfacing or other procedures.
The greatest risk of lip augmentation is an infection at the graft site or lip where the skin was placed. There is a very small risk of bleeding, scarring, asymmetry, absorption of the grafts or rejection and loss of grafts, aesthetically poor results, nerve injuries, numbness or failure to meet expectations. This is a very safe procedure and is highly successful.
Healing time is minimal. Dressings are applied to the harvest sites and where skin was taken. The lips are easily treated with a simple antibiotic ointment. Swelling goes down after a few days to a week. The procedure keeps getting softer and better looking with time.
